Germantown, MD—July 14, 2006 — Reconfigurable Computing leader DSPlogic, Inc. today announced that the Naval Research Laboratory has selected the Reconfigurable Computing Toolbox to accelerate high-performance computing algorithms. DSPlogic’s RC Toolbox will be used to create FPGA-accelerated software programs for the Cray XD1 supercomputer.
NRL’s facility in Washington, D.C., is home to the largest Cray XD1 supercomputer ever installed. Equipped with 288 AMD Opteron Dual-Core processors, 144 Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs and 6 Xilinx Virtex-4 FPGAs, the 24-chassis machine will provide peak performance of 2.5 teraflops, or trillion floating-point operations per second.
“Software programmers have traditionally had a difficult time programming FPGAs”, said Michael Babst, President of DSPlogic. “We are very pleased that NRL has chosen DSPlogic to help them overcome the barriers to FPGA-accelerated software. Our graphical programming language will help them improve productivity without sacrificing performance or portability.”
About the Reconfigurable Computing Toolbox
The DSPlogic Reconfigurable Computing Toolbox provides an easy way to accelerate computationally intensive software applications using today’s reconfigurable computing platforms. DSPlogic's graphical programming language allows rapid implementation of high-performance, portable applications. The Reconfigurable Computing Toolbox allows users to off-load computationally intensive tasks to one or more FPGA coprocessors while maintaining a simple software interface.
