About Us

DSPlogic, Inc. is a rapidly growing high-technology company providing products and services to the large number of markets that benefit from High-Performance Reconfigurable Computing (HPRC) and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technologies.

DSPlogic's founder, Michael Babst, recognized several key trends in the FPGA industry:

  • First, there was a growing demand from software programmers and scientists for the immense computational capacity of FPGAs, but that the required hardware design skills put the technology out of their easy reach.
  • Second, many FPGA hardware programmers were still using very low-productivity Hardware Description Languages (HDLs), the equivalent of assembly language, fearing that using higher level languages would cost them performance or reliability.
  • Third, proven software concepts such as code re-use, libraries, abstraction layers and portability, were seldom applied effectively to FPGA programming.
  • Finally, sequential programming languages, such as C and its variants, make it very difficult for programmers to express the parallelism and pipelining required for high-performance, while C-to-FPGA compilers are unable to extract parallelism from existing code - often resulting in software "de-celleration".

DSPlogic set out to overcome all of these barriers to FPGA computing. After several years of intense development effort, working closely with industry leaders, academic leaders and future customers, DSPlogic created the Reconfigurable Computing Toolbox, the world's first comprehensive graphical programming environment for hybrid CPU/FPGA computing platforms, based on the Matlab/Simulink platform.

DSPlogic's graphical programming language now allows programmers to easily visualize the parallelism inherent in their algorithms. When used with DSPlogic's Platform builder, which guarantees computational integrity while completely hiding all hardware design issues, software programmers can easily take advantage of FPGA processing power. Because DSPlogic developed the system from the "ground-up", high-performance and robustness remains a key advantage of the RC Toolbox. This also allows hardware engineers to access low-level details and programming when required.

DSPlogic has since grown to serve many organizations, from small startups, to Fortune 500 companies, to United States Department of Defense organizations. Today, DSPlogic continues to be on the leading edge of High Performance Reconfigurable Computing and embedded signal processing.
